Resources to help understand proposed Lead and Copper Rule Improvements

Are you a city or local elected official reading the proposed Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI) and wondering how new requirements could affect your community? Do you know if you have lead service lines and/or a risk of lead in water in your community?

Safe Water Engineering and the University of Michigan Water Center - Graham Sustainability Institute developed a suite of resources to help local elected officials understand the Michigan Lead and Copper Rule when it was revised in 2018. The biggest changes in the LCRI that could impact your community mirror the Michigan LCR. Use this link to access an interactive guide for learning about lead in your communityFAQs, infographics, as well as policy briefs and other material designed to help communities reduce the risk of exposure to lead and water.

The LCRI proposal is open for public comment through February 5, 2024, providing an opportunity for the public to voice their opinions.
